The Comal Independent School District is a Texas Education Agency "Recognized" district and an outstanding educational system offering first-class instructional programs in a family friendly environment. It is a place where your children will be successful.
Our district was created in 1956 and encompasses almost 600 square miles of the beautiful Texas Hill Country. Some of our schools are in New Braunfels while others are in the communities of Sattler (near Canyon Lake), Spring Branch, Smithson Valley, and Bulverde. We presently have more than 16,000 students in 22 schools and we're a fast growing district. We are growing by about 1,000 students a year.
In May 2008, voters approved an almost $206 million bond package. We will be able to expand Canyon and Smithson Valley high schools and our four middle schools. We also will be building three new elementary schools, standardizing our playgrounds, and adding air conditioning to all our elementary and middle school gyms.
The 2005 bond issue is allowing us to build eight new schools, convert others, renovate some, and buy more school buses. We're also upgrading our technology and buying land for future schools thanks to this $189 million bond package.
Our goal is to keep the schools small enough for teachers and administrators to have quality instructional time with your children. We pride ourselves on a strong academic program that includes classes for the gifted/talented, advanced placement classes, and career and technology courses.
Comal ISD is a Chapter 41, or property-rich district, under the current state funding formula. As a result, we have sent almost $21 million in local tax revenues to the state for distribution to property poor districts since 2005. This year we estimate we'll be sending almost $15 million to the state.
Take a look at us, visit our schools, join our family, and I know you will be proud of what our staff and students are doing to make us a highly acclaimed school district. |
